MANILA, Philippines—PBA champion coach Yeng Guiao believes it’s only a matter of time before NLEX finally gets over the hump.

The Road Warriors have a promising core, led by Kevin Alas, Don Trollano and Calvin Oftana, and more to be able to contend for a championship—something which Guiao wasn’t able to deliver after the two parties surprisingly announced they have mutually parted ways.

“I think this is the stage where the pieces, camaraderie, chemistry and system are all there already,” Guiao said on Power&Play.

“It’s in a breakthrough position. I will be proud if this team is able to advance or even play better without me. I will take pride in that.”

Guiao and NLEX ended a six-year partnership on Friday.

The multi-titled mentor steered the Road Warriors to several playoff runs including a pair of semifinal stints.

NLEX was booted out by Magnolia in a best-of-three series in the 2022 Philippine Cup quarterfinals in what turned out to be Guiao’s final conference with the team.
